I have a question about Ratings #1 and #2 for the SRS. It seems that most people would fall under rating #2 if they were married or had a roommate even if the person they were living with was not responsible for supervision, because that person COULD provide some supervision. Currently with the housing situation, many people live in the same house and do not take over any supervision of the other person. Should Rating #1 read "Other persons can live with the patient, but they DO not take responsibility for supervision." IP: Logged |

These two ratings are sometimes difficult to apply when the person lives with others and it isn't clear if the others are providing supervision. Some ways to deal with this situation are to rate "1" if: 1. the person has been unsupervised at home overnight. i.e., other people living with the patient have been away overnight. 2. the person has been away from home overnight, without supervision. e.g., the person has gone on a trip alone. 3. the person has minimal contact with the other people living there. e.g., the other people are roommates leading separate lives, the other people don't assist the person. Basically, the critical thing is to look for objective evidence that the person is not being supervised, and to rate "1" if you can find evidence like in the 3 examples above. Please let me know if this doesn't answer your question. IP: Logged |
