One of the things I find troubling about the original CIQ is that it penalizes you for completing activities with another person (shopping, meal preparation, housework, childcare, etc.). This may be fine if you are single and live on your own, but not if you are married. In many relationships these are shared tasks and it is not necessarily "better" if you complete them on your own. Will this issue be addressed in the CIQ 2? Jerry Wright IP: Logged |

Right you are. The CIQ tries to do two things at the same time - quantifying IADL (instrumental activities of daily living) participation, and quantifying amount of social contact. If we knew why there was joint performance of activities, we would know how to score: is it because the person needs supervision, or is it because he/she likes to share activities that normal people do together (oftentimes). Not participating in household chores is not normal. Having someone else supervise one's performance is not normal. Never doing things together with others is not normal. As of now, the CIQ-2 does not try to split these things, or inquire as to the reason for joint or individual activities. However, it certainly would be feasible to play around with the scoring algorithm - trying to determine how much of a difference it makes if one gets full credit for household task participation if it is shared. There are plenty of other items that capture the social interchange aspect - e.g. getting together with friends, playing cards with family, participation in organizations. IP: Logged |

I would really appreciate some more information about CIQ 2 What issues regarding the original CIQ does CIQ 2 aim to address? Who is working on CIQ 2? When is CIQ 2 likely to be available? IP: Logged |

The revised CIQ (CIQ-2)is still under development. the research will try to find solutions for some problems identified with respect to the old CIQ, and evaluate if some new communications technologies need to be included in community integration quantification. so we are looking at: -include in the home activities section more items that are traditionally male "WE" is Marcel Dijkers in New York, Mitchell Rosenthal in New Jersey, and Cindy Harrison-Felix in Colorado. I hope that we have something to share with the world in about a year. ------------------ IP: Logged |
